Bug Description

On this ThinkPad R52, Resume from Suspend fails if the machine has been left alone asleep for several hours. A short suspend tends to work.

Longer time on suspend before wake-up makes the X server crash and I'm presented with GDM constantly respawning and the only visible thing being the spinning jimmaq busy cursor.

SysRq-s -u -b seems to be the only way to get out of this.

ThinkPad R52, latest edgy, kernel 2.6.17-7-386

I have a 18586MM and I do not see any behaviour like that. It has an Intel on board video and 1.5Gb of RAM.

Which model R52 are you experiencing this issue with? I suspect that this is an ATI-based model.

See: http://thinkwiki.org/wiki/Category:R52 for more details.

Hardy Heron 8.04 was recently released. It would be helpful if you could test the new release and verify if this is still an issue - http://www.ubuntu.com/testing . You should be able to test your bug using the LiveCD. Please let us know your results. Thanks.
