Bug Description

Binary package hint: evolution

I'm using the built-in Google Calendar support and the times for events are incorrectly being offset for my timezone (Australia/Brisbane GMT+10:00) even though my timezone is the same on Google Calendar and my system (Evolution is configured to use the system timezone, and the greyed out box for a custom timezone lists Australia/Brisbane). If I hover my mouse over the event in Evolution both the incorrect and correct time are listed, with the correct time being labelled as the 'Etc/GMT' timezone. I seem to be able to temporarily work around this issue by disabling using the system timezone, change my timezone to UTC and then re-enable using the system timezone, but restarting evolution messes up the event times again (probably just a separate bug where enabling the use of the system timezone doesn't refresh the times).

This specific problem is not limited to the native Google Calendar support within Evolution.
After I experienced the problem described in this bug report using the native Google Calendar support, I then used CalDAV to configure a calendar to interface with my Google Calendar, but experienced the exact same problem as with the native Google Calendar.

I am also using Ubuntu 10.04 LTS "Lucid Lynx" amd64.

I am not in Australia though, I am in South Africa.

I note that this is still an issue in Ubuntu 10.10. Items are offset even though the timezone in Google is the same as the machines.

This issue seems to be more an issue where the client that sends the meeting request is using the incorrect timezone.

I noticed that this was mostly happening when one specific colleague of mine invited me to meetings, but it never happened when anyone else invited me to meetings.

It turns out that my colleague was using Blackberry mobile phone, which seemed to be the root cause of the issue.

When he sent meeting requests from his desktop PC, everything was fine until he used his Blackberry.
