E: Sub-process /usr/bin/dpkg returned an error code (1)

Although the flash plugins got successfully installed at /usr/lib/mozilla/plugins, but the error message is simply annoying.

Does Ubuntu do basic QA before releasing a package update?

I have had identical behaviour and error messages in Dapper Drake.

I also uninstalled the previous version of flashplugin-nonfree and tried a fresh install. That too failed.
