Hello,
I am testing the the daily-build of Kubuntu daily build 16.08.2010 marvick 10.10 x86 64 and the live session can't be shutdown via the menu. It just don't do anything.
tested on virtualboxose 3.2

FWIW, I'm running the same image in non-OSE 3.7 and it shuts down, but slowly.
Here's what happens during the Live session:
Click Shut Down
10-15 seconds pass and the screen goes black.
Several more seconds pass and I get the background again and a box asking me if I want to shut down 7 active ttys. If I hit the ESC key, I get a KDM login box.
Hitting the shutdown and hitting OK on the box about shutting down active sessions, does shut the live system down.
