Binary package hint: cups-pdf

Hi,

I just installed cups-pdf in dapper and it didn't work. After messing around for a while I found that I had to "chmod ug+s /usr/lib/cups/backend/cups-pdf" to get it working.

I know that this is a security issue, but there is a note in the cups-pdf documentation that says that cups-pdf root access.

The installer should be updated, or the root requirement removed.

As reported in bug 42147, cups-pdf 2.4.2-1 finally closed the issue for a number of people. Does it also work in your case?

The only cups-pdf 2.4.2-1 deb archive I could find was on debian unstable, this depends on an updated libc6 so I didn't install it. I checked the changelog and it looks like the real change from my point of view is that the backend permissions are set as I did by hand.

cups-pdf 2.4.2-1 is also available on Ubuntu Edgy, which is due for release in a few weeks.

Ubuntu 6.10 (Edgy) having been released yesterday, can you upgrade and confirm whether the cups-pdf version in Edgy solves this issue?
