Bug Description

This refers to the beta 6.10 release (xubuntu-6.10-beta-alternate-i386.jigdo) and the matching template file (xubuntu-6.10-beta-alternate-i386.template). From http://cdimage.ubuntu.com/xubuntu/releases/edgy/beta/

Due to bug #64722 you need to change the name of the template file to xubuntu-6.10-alternate-i386.template for the download to start.

I cannot say how many files are missing as I fed jigdo with Xubuntu 6.06 and Ubuntu alternate install 6.10 which calculated that I needed ~220 (out of ~1200) more files to make the Xubuntu beta image.

I have tried several mirrors as well as archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/ and 28 files are unavailable for download. Without these files I cannot burn the image!

They are mainly language/localisation files and all are coming up 404.

You get the following error message:
Aaargh - 28 files could not be downloaded. This should not
happen! Depending on the problem, it may help to retry downloading
the missing files.
Also, you could try changing to another Debian or Non-US server,
in case the one you used is out of sync.

However, if all the files downloaded without errors and you
still get this message, it means that the files changed on the
server, so the image cannot be generated.
As a last resort, you could try to complete the CD image download
by fetching the remaining data with rsync.
-------------
I suspect that the packages have been updated and the old ones removed, without the jigdo downloads being taken into account. If this is the case then either beta files need keeping somewhere separate, or the jigdo template files need to be automatically updated.

We can't offer jigdo as a way of downloading our images and then have it break like this!

All the previous versions appear to have been deleted and the new versions are recently dated. Jigdo should use a static repository..

This problem is way more general, is not only affecting Xubuntu Edgy, is also affecting Kubuntu 6.06.1 LTS, and even when I haven't tested, should affect all 6.06.1 releases and any other future or present release that relay on non-static archive.

My complete speculation about the problem would be(some of this facts have been already addressed in previous comments):

I guess that after an update in the archive, the jigdo file hasn't been updated, so it contain files no longer availables.

This problem is not simple, cause, I don't see the ubuntu team making new isos every time a packages in an iso get updated in the archive.

Maybe by not removing files from the archive that still belongs to some iso, you can accomplish this. But I don't know how easy will be this, cause I imagine that the content of the archive if controled by a software, that only keep the contents of Packages files.

Hope it can be fixed, I also would like to hear any correction on my thoughts.

Carlos Javier
