[MIR] ubuntu-font-family-sources

The package is architecture-independent and contains four .ttf TrueType fonts, covering ~2,000 glyph codepoints in Latin, Cyrillic, Greek across Regular, Bold, Italic and Bold Italic.

There is a great demand for access to the Ubuntu Font Family; 500 non-Ubuntu members have signed up to the 'ubuntu-typeface-interest' team specifically to gain access during the phased beta period. The fonts in the package have no history of security problems; although .ttf files do contain manually programmed bytecodes for the font hinting state-machine. The package does not require any user-configuration after installation as FontConfig locates and indexes the fonts automatically. Canonical are actively funding the upstream provider so support issues are likely to be highly resolvable:

The primary bug tracking the potential inclusion into Ubuntu 10.10 is bug #629622. A list of targetted bugs is at:

most of which have been closed by the process of preparing this uploaded, and which in-turn was blocked on (lack of) licensing issues. Bug #645987 covers the possible inclusion of the new INDIAN RUPEE symbol (assigned by Unicode in the last month), and if this were to happen, it would require a further upload, with very low technical risks as that codepoint has never been allocated before and is therefore unlikely to collide with anything.
