Bug Description

To reproduce:

Install any Ubuntu on a Dell Inspiron 8600 with NVidia GeForce VGA controller. Suspend (ACPI S3) then try to resume. Result, a generally working computer with no display.

This problem has been known for years, as has the solution. The VGA system needs to be subject to a POST after S3 resume to kick it back into life. The original solution was a program called postvga that could be scheduled for execuion on S3 resume. However SUSE 10.1 and Fedora Core 5 manage this automatically. On both of these distros, S3 suspend/resume works fine.

This bug report is filed using a Dell Inspiron 8600 running SUSE 10.1. It would be running Ubuntu 6.06 save for this bug.

Beginning with the Hardy Heron 8.04 development cycle, all open Ubuntu kernel bugs need to be reported against the "linux" kernel package. We are automatically migrating this linux-source-2.6.15 kernel bug to the new "linux" package. We appreciate your patience and understanding as we make this transition. Also, if you would be interested in testing the upcoming Intrepid Ibex 8.10 release, it is available at http://www.ubuntu.com/testing . Please let us know your results. Thanks!
