Bug Description

Binary package hint: banshee

On startup of Banshee on Ubuntu Lucid (10.04) just after the main window appears. It crashes.

I have attached the log from $HOME/.config/banshee-1

Excerpt of the log is:

[Info 09:11:19.198] AppleDeviceSource is ignoring unmounted volume 21 GB Filesystem
[Warn 09:11:19.201] Caught an exception - System.InvalidOperationException: Operation is not valid due to the current state of the object (in `Banshee.Dap.AppleDevice')
  at Banshee.Dap.AppleDevice.AppleDeviceSource.DeviceInitialize (IDevice device) [0x00000]
  at Banshee.Dap.DapService.FindDeviceSource (IDevice device) [0x00000]

The 21 GB Fileystem that it just ignored is a NTFS Windows XP partition, that I rarely use, nowadays.

I downloaded Banshee 1.8 from the banshee Team PPA.

This looks like it's a duplicate of this bug :
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/samba/+bug/529714

I'm syaing this because of that part in the stacktrace :
#4 <signal handler called>
#5 0xb1fde7e2 in _nss_wins_gethostbyname_r () from /lib/libnss_wins.so.2
#6 0xb1fdeb2f in _nss_wins_gethostbyname2_r () from /lib/libnss_wins.so.2
#7 0xb76a7b0d in gethostbyname2_r () from /lib/tls/i686/cmov/libc.so.6

Could you try the workaround described in comment #10 on that bug (remove wins from /etc/nsswitch.conf) ?

I have made the necessary changes to my system and network to be able to remove wins from /etc/nsswitch.conf and it has fixed the problem.

The interesting thing is that I had no problems running this version in my test VM which also has wins in the /etc/nsswitch.conf.
