Bug Description

Binary package hint: compiz

I have a core duo laptop with integrated Intel graphics, When I run "compiz --indirect-rendering" window moving is very slow, cube-desktop switching is jumpy. Everything feels like it is not accelerated at all.

Compiz got a bit faster after allocating more RAM to card (by VideoRam directive in xorg.conf), but:
a) it's still slow
b) by customizing xorg.conf I'm losing all future changes caused by package updates.

This is probably Bug #36666 again... (i.e. it's your graphics card drivers not compiz or xgl)

(note that these days the i815 driver does have texture_from_pixmap support on modern intel cards)

Well, I believe i945 is modern. But you are probably right about missing extension:

zdzichu@sandworm:~$ compiz --replace gconf
zdzichu@sandworm:~$ libGL warning: 3D driver claims to not support visual 0x5b
compiz.real: GLX_EXT_texture_from_pixmap is missing
compiz.real: Failed to manage screen: 0
compiz.real: No manageable screens found on display :0.0

zdzichu@sandworm:~$
zdzichu@sandworm:~$
zdzichu@sandworm:~$ compiz --indirect-rendering --replace gconf
zdzichu@sandworm:~$ libGL warning: 3D driver claims to not support visual 0x5b
compiz.real: No stencil buffer. Clipping of transformed windows is not going to be correct when screen is transformed.
Switching to using non-fbo path
compiz.real: water: GL_ARB_fragment_program is missing

So probably xorg-intel-driver in Edgy needs updating. I will reassign this bug.
