Bug Description

Binary package hint: gnome-settings-daemon

The Ubuntu theme does not load successfully on the first try.
I have to log out from Ubuntu and log in again. Sometimes I have to do this 5 times until finally the Ubuntu theme loads successfully.
Until then I only get this gray fallback theme from GTK+ I think (screenshot attached).

I tried to run g-s-d manually:
$ LANG=C gnome-settings-daemon

** (gnome-settings-daemon:15385): WARNING **: Failed to acquire org.gnome.SettingsDaemon

** (gnome-settings-daemon:15385): WARNING **: Could not acquire name

Attached you find the output of:
dmesg
ps aux
$HOME/.xsession-errors

Some additional information:
- I use a clean (means I formated previous partitions of Ubuntu 10.04) installation of Ubuntu 10.10 (final) and this problem exists on my desktop PC since the first run.
- The problem does not occur on my notebook which also has Ubuntu 10.10 installed (fully updated) since beta I think.
- In contrast to my desktop PC my notebook does not have a SSD. In case there is some kind of race condition.

This is the .xsession-errors file after the Ubuntu theme has been loaded successfully.

I'm having exactly the same problem. It's also only an issue on a machine which has an SSD in it.

Killing gnome-settings-daemon and then running it in a terminal restores most of my visual settings, but not all of them.

Thanks,
Vince.
