Bug Description

This affects both Dapper Drake (6.06.1) and Edgy Eft (6.10). To reproduce have a box w/ the new Intel Q965 chipset (built in video card) and try to boot the Desktop CD

This chipset is comming out w/ the new Intel Core Duo chips. No error messages recived, in 6.06.1 the last message you see is "Uncomprissing Linux... Ok booting the Kernel" In 6.10, after selecting to boot Kubuntu receive a blank screen where nothing happens. There should be the inclusion of the Intel Q965 driver in the cd. More information about the driver can be found at intellinuxgraphics.org

Thanks...

I hope this is the right package

Actually, it should be filed against linux-source-2.6.17... I've corrected that.

Changed in kernel-package:
status: Unconfirmed → Rejected

When booting from 6.06.1 LTS and the Edgy Release Candidate by removing the quiet from the boot the messages are the same:
ACPI: Bus Type PCI registered
ACPI: PCI BIOS Revision 3.00 Entity at 0Xeb048, last bus =32
PCI: Using MMCONFIG
ACPI: Subsystem revision 20050902
ACPI: PCI Root Bridge [PCI_0] 0x0000
ACPI: Assume Root bridge [\_SB_.PCI]

After that it hangs w/ no response.

By booting the 6.06.1 LTS cd and passing linux pci = nommconf I am able to boot in the Desktop CD.
However this command does not work in booting the release candidate.

This to me is a crtiical bug but don't know if the kernel developers would agree. I hope it helps w/ this additional errors.

Using the official Kubuntu release of Edgy I was still unable to boot. Tried to pass several commands and all failed. I can't tell if this bug is closed/or rejected or whatever it is, but it is still aproblem

I have an HP dx7300 with the Q965 chipset and I can confirm that this bug exists in the following ubuntu distributions:

6.10 x86 Desktop

6.10 AMD64 Alternate Install

6.06 x86 Desktop

The boot hangs and last message during boot is (similar to):

ACPI: Assume Root bridge [\_SB_.PCI]

Note that Ubuntu is not alone with this problem. All current gentoo livecd fail to boot at the same point.

I also built a bootable USB flash drive to test different kernels. I get the same symptoms with 2.6.20-rc1-mm1.

I have not tried every possible kernel command line option. Switching off APIC and ACPI did not help.

Adding pci=nommconf to the boot parameters allows 6.10 x86 Desktop to boot OK. (Have not tried other releases.)

Ubuntu version is Feisty Fawn Herd 4, PC (Intel x86) desktop CD

Boots after adding pci=nommconf

Changing this to incomplete... on the final release did you have any problems with the Kubunt uDesktop CD? Also are you able to boot a Gutsy Desktop CD, even an Alpha release?

I notice there have not been any updates for awhile on this bug. Can we get a status update on what things are happening
