Bug Description

This bug, originally filed as 'When you want to file a bug against the package fglrx launchpad chooses the package fglrx-installer for you, this is misleading because there is no such package available.' shows up the confusion between source and binary package names that bug filers, who are often end users unaware of the complexities of our environment - that we may have different names between what they think they use and the thing we build the binaries from... and that we manage bugs by *source package*.

Its possible that adding some help links would be enough - I don't know for sure.

https://launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/fglrx-installer is a package
https://launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/fglrx is not. Looks like apport+apt did the right thing and selected a package that someone will see and retarget as needed.

$ apt-cache show fglrx
Package: fglrx
Priority: extra
Section: restricted/misc
Installed-Size: 105888
Maintainer: Ubuntu Core Developers <email address hidden>
Architecture: amd64
Source: fglrx-installer

- you'll never have an fglrx-installer package installed - it is the
source from which the fglrx binary is created.

OK, I see the point but this is still confusing for the end user...

Do you have any thoughts about how we could make this clearer for end users?

Note that the schema - the split between source and binary packges -
isn't something we can directly alter/improve on.

Well, is there a way to see which bin packages result from a source package?

If so the end user could see the bin package name and the devs could see the source package name.
