Bug Description

Binary package hint: usplash

After first splash and also at close the vertical and horizontal holds are lost.
This started about 2 weeks ago and I had been hoping that further updates would have corrected this.
Thanks
Reg

Having recently serviced this bug reporter's computer, I confirm.

Near the end of the boot process, virtual consoles display a distorted image with fast moving horizontal bars scrolling past, similar to when the vhold of a monitor is off range.

At shutdown or reboot, the same garbage appears on the virtual console.

The user's screen resolution is 1024x768 (and correctly configured in the usplash configuration file).

Could you confirm what type of computer this is with:

  cat /var/lib/acpi-support/*-*

I've seen this on an Compaq Tablet TC1000 with nvidia chipset and usplash/framebuffer from a month ago. Are either of you using 'i915resolution'?

Thanks for confirming this, Martin-Eric. Let's hope something can be done.

Is this issue with a LCD or a CRT?

/etc/usplash.conf

xres=1024
yres=768

is that set correctly?

Yes, Richard, both are correct and the problem continues.

Both values are indeed correct. Reg uses a multisync CRT.

Please note that the problem disappeared when I removed the Ubuntu desktop and ran only on KDE.
With a clean KDE all is as it should be.
Is there a bug somewhere on Edgy Gnome?
Thanks

Because this bug is now very old and that no answer was provided within a month, I set the status to invalid but please feel free to re-open it and comment if you can still reproduce the bug with latest gutsy / hardy release and provide necessary information. Thanks for your contribution to ubuntu!
