Bug Description

Binary package hint: kde-systemsettings

I noticed configuring samba server that, when I tried to configure Samba from the systemsettings application, that a window with workgroup, description, security levels and other important things, was missing (there is a module in kcontrol showing these things).

I noticed too, that the checkbox for enabling folder sharing in local networks can't be disabled (when I disable it and start systemsettings again, it is enabled).

I found the samba configuration (especially users, user permissions, and missing samba password manager) very difficult with this application.

I am new to bug posting, so please let me know if I am doing the wrong thing.

I am assuming that there needs to be more than one post for a bug to be confirmed.

I would like to confirm the above mentioned bug. There is no graphical way to change the "Workgroup Name" in kubuntu Edgy KDE 3.5.5. It requires manual editing of smb.conf. Very backward.

Sorry to post twice, I also noticed that after using the kubuntu system settings to change my eth0 network card from dhcp to static, my manually inserted workgroup and server string in smb.conf were removed.

I have to edit smb.conf every time I appy changes in the networking dialog in system settings.

I confirm this.

The configuration module kcmsambaconf should be included in the "Advanced" tab of System settings. This module is very interesting to configure samba properties. So why it is not accessible ?

Hello,

Thanks for reporting this feature request! Unfortunately, at this time Kubuntu does not have the developer manpower needed to implement and maintain many features at the Kubuntu level. This wish would best be reported and tracked at https://bugs.kde.org, so that it can be implemented by the KDE developers themselves. Once implemented in KDE, it will be included in Kubuntu once the KDE version the feature is implemented in reaches Kubuntu.

Thanks!
