Bug Description

Binary package hint: usb-creator

Followed the instructions here: http://www.jonobacon.org/2010/11/30/testing-natty-and-unity-safely-with-a-usb-stick/

LiveUSB created is not persistent although I chose max space available (3.1GB) and casper-rw seems to be created. Other than lack of persistence, everything else seems to work as well as can be expected from a daily ISO.

What were you trying to make persistent?

The LiveUSB?

After creating a LiveUSB with space for storing changes, I find any changes I've made in the Live session isn't saved. Once I reboot all changes are gone. It's as if I were on a LiveCD session.

usb-creator used is from Maverick, ISO is the latest Natty image.

Now, don't be sassy. ;-)

What I'm trying to get at is if you were trying to make system changes (e.g. install a kernel driver, do apt-get upgrade, or similar) you might be experiencing bug #562312. I suspect so, but there's not enough evidence in this bug report for me to be 100% certain.

Why don't you look at that bug and see if what you're experiencing matches that, and if the workaround there works for you.

Okay, well I can't be certain but this sounds similar to bug #562312.

I'll dupe it to that; if you decide it is something else feel free to undupe, and explain in more detail how your issue differs from that one.

Haha no I just felt that question puzzling. Wasn't trying to be sassy ;-)

I'm not getting the lzma error in bug #562312 although I am getting a gzip error instead. Just to be sure I reformatted and made a fresh LiveUSB with ~1GB of unused space and 2GB for casper-rw. Despite having space available I'm still getting this. I should probably file a separate bug on this later if nobody else has.

To clarify, any and all changes to the LiveUSB isn't saved at all. Manually pinned apps on the panel will disappear when I reboot (only the defaults are left). I've tried downloading a small file into a fresh LiveUSB, confirmed it's there in Downloads and I find it's no longer in the Downloads folder when I reboot the LiveUSB. Ditto for installing apps from Software Center. Reboot and it's no longer installed.

So my bug is about persistence not working at all, not update errors/corruption.
