This is actually from a -7 kernel, but looks the same as what i tend to get with the -9 kernels.

A few more observations:

1. this happens on almost every boot with 2.6.37-10-generic.

2. it doesn't seem to happen with the latest upstream from kernel-ppa

3. it happens at various places with respect to monitor modesets, so once in a long while I can see more of the oops (most times the screen is blank). There is a mention of speedstep_init above the lines I captured with the camera (in comment #2)

    There have been lots of changes to the kernel since this report was filed, can you test with a daily iso and see if you get better results? Thanks.

@Brad
    Sorry, I was convinced I had commented to this bug - as of -12 I've rarely hit this problem. A few of the -12 updates would reintroduce it, but what I have now (2.6.37-12.26 - I can't update right now) is booting fine.

Thanks,
-serge

@Serge -- if you could confirm that 2.6.37-12.26 and later are no longer affected, then I think we can move this Fix Released. If you could check and move it there if so. Thanks!
