when playing ac3 files, totem tells me audio device used by another program

Thanks for your bug. Do you have the same issue when using xine-ui or totem-gstreamer? Do you have an example of ac3 to point? Is that ac3 specific?

Ok, here come more details, better late than never...

It happens when using ac3 passthrough in totem-xine and xine-ui, when downmixing the file plays without problems. I use an audigy2 based card.

still the same with xine-lib 1.1.3 and latest alsa.

Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu better. You reported this bug a while ago and there hasn't been any activity in it recently. We were wondering is this still an issue for you? Also the issue that you reported is one that should be reproducable with the live environment of the Desktop CD of the development release - Gutsy Gibbon. It would help us greatly if you could test with it so we can work on getting it fixed in the next release of Ubuntu. I can play ac3 files using gutsy and totem-xine, but when enabling passthrough I only get crackling on my receiver.
In totem-gstreamer the passthrough option doesn't work at all, but I think this is due to gstreamer limitations.
