Bug Description

Binary package hint: ktorrent

As explained in:
http://ktorrent.org/forum/viewtopic.php?t=1019&highlight=corrupt
there is a problem with ktorrent downloading a few chunks of a torrent improperly, resulting in downloads that never quite have all of the correct pieces. The SVN version does not have this problem, however it is not compiled as an ubuntu package. Until the ktorrent package is upgraded, it cannot be trusted to properly download and upload pieces of files using the bittorrent protocol.

Yes, this is indeed a confirmed bug that only exhibits itself sometimes with the 2.0 series KTorrent releases.

This bug does not happen in SVN, but nobody (not even the developers) knows exactly what change in SVN fixed this bug.

As a result, I am at a loss of ideas as to how to fix this bug... Sorry.

I do have SVN packages available at http://buntudot.org/people/~jdong/ktorrent/ , but those are experimental in nature.

exactly, I was very surprised by the answer :(
now ktorrent 2.1 beta1 is out, but I think Edgy is closed for this kind of update?

I've been closely following KTorrent's development cycle, and I'm going to evaluate how stable their betas are (unfortunately after the introduction of the web plugin stability dipped below acceptable quality again)

Perhaps one of the 2.1 betas will start making it into edgy-backports.

But first, we need a 2.1 beta packaged.

now we have also 2.1rc1 package to backport...

Yeah, I recently prepared the 2.1~rc1 upload into Ubuntu. Upstream plans to have 2.1 final released in about two weeks, so I think I'll hold off until that for a backport.

So, as of now I'd say Fix Released in Feisty, while Dapper/Edgy still need a backport task (SRU is going to be too complex for this fix)

Attention Backports Testers:

Do not process this backport request until 2.1 final (not RC) is in Feisty. Thanks.

I think can be processed now that 2.1 final is in Feisty isn't?
