Bug Description

Binary package hint: coreutils

I have big backup files (19Gb) and a Iomega Rev (RRD) tape with UDF Filesystem.

When I try to copy a backup file (19Gb) to the Rev, cp writes exactly 1Gb of the file and then exits with this error:

root@x3non-desktop:/var/archives# cp -av x3non.20061106.master.tar.gz /media/rev/x3non-desktop/
`x3non.20061106.master.tar.gz' -> `/media/rev/x3non-desktop/x3non.20061106.master.tar.gz'
Ecceduto limite dimensione file (core dumped).

With older Ubuntu releases everything was fine.

On syslog no messages are written.

Is this on dapper or edgy? If edgy can you please look in /var/crash for a crash report. If on dapper can you please try to obtain a backtrace by following http://wiki.ubuntu.com/DebuggingProcedures or http://wiki.ubuntu.com/DebuggingProgramCrash.

redone copying only one file per time:

root@x3non-desktop:/var/crash# cp -av /var/archives/x3non-desktop-home-x3non.20061106.master.tar.gz /media/rev/x3non-desktop/
`/var/archives/x3non-desktop-home-x3non.20061106.master.tar.gz' -> `/media/rev/x3non-desktop/x3non-desktop-home-x3non.20061106.master.tar.gz'

I am having the same problem while copying a 4GB+ file from edgy to a samba shared folder in a NAS device(simpletech "Simple Share")

*I did a test by copying the same file from Windows XP to the same device without problem.

regarding UDF filesize limit, it should be solved in latest mm-kernel tree, it should be included in next 2.6.22 kernel release
