Bug Description

Binary package hint: openoffice.org

When I open some presentations (Microsoft Powerpoint .pps files) in read-only mode, OpenOffice automatically starts the fullscreen slideshow of the presentation. Now when I hit the Escape key to exit the fullscreen slideshow, or right-click on the slideshow and select 'End show', OpenOffice Impress immediately crashes. I tried running 'ooimpress My_presentation' on the commandline to see if OpenOffice prints any useful error, but it prints nothing. I've attached one example presentation that induces ooimpress to crash on my system here. I should mention that I'm running no unusual software or service that I can think of, that might conflict with OpenOffice.

Strange ... this happens for me with LibreOffice 3.3, but OpenOffice 3.3 doesn't seem to have this bug.

Santosh Krishnan, thank you for reporting this bug and helping make Ubuntu better. In Ubuntu 11.04 perform at the Terminal:

cd ~/Desktop && wget https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/libreoffice/+bug/705838/+attachment/1801604/+files/Live_A_Life_That_Matters.pps && loimpress -nologo Live_A_Life_That_Matters.pps

Immediately upon file opening click ESC and notice LibreOffice Impress does not crash it just closes. As per Microsoft ( http://office.microsoft.com/en-us/powerpoint-help/create-and-distribute-a-self-running-powerpoint-presentation-HA001034817.aspx ) this is by design as a .pps (PowerPoint Show) file is supposed to only open in Slide Show view and not allow editing. Marking Invalid. Thank you again for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu better. Please submit any future bugs you may find.

Changed in libreoffice (Ubuntu):
status: New → Invalid

Does someone know how to opt-out of this "design" and view the slideshow in a window ?
