Bug Description

Binary package hint: xserver-xorg-video-intel

When plugging in an HDMI display dmesg prints
[drm:drm_mode_getfb] *ERROR* invalid framebuffer id
xrandr still says VGA1, HDMI1, DP1 disconnected. No other method detects the display, not even rebooting with the display plugged in changes anything.

on 2.6.35-24-generic-pae kernel, package version 2:2.12.0-1ubuntu5.1

This is an Dell XPS L501X notebook with nVidia Optimus and i5 CPU with built-in GPU (Optimus doesn't work, nvidia drivers not installed, empty xorg.conf, autoloads i915)

It's an DVI display with HDMI adapter cable, everything works as expected when the machine runs Windows (with both nVidia and Intel GPUs).

Same behaviour with mainline kernel drm-intel-next 2.6.38-997-generic, except there aren't any more messages in dmesg.

Brad Figg (brad-figg) wrote : Test with newer development kernel (3.0.0-12.20)

Thank you for taking the time to file a bug report on this issue.

However, given the number of bugs that the Kernel Team receives during any development cycle it is impossible for us to review them all. Therefore, we occasionally resort to using automated bots to request further testing. This is such a request.

We have noted that there is a newer version of the development kernel than the one you last tested when this issue was found. Please test again with the newer kernel and indicate in the bug if this issue still exists or not.

If the bug still exists, change the bug status from Incomplete to Confirmed. If the bug no longer exists, change the bug status from Incomplete to Fix Released.

Thank you for your help, we really do appreciate it.
