Bug Description
Binary package hint: unity
Unity-3d hangs when I log-in, either from initial boot or by logging-out and trying to log-in again.
Unity-2d opens correctly if I choose that option on logging-in.
The desktop with Unity-3d shows correct background image and desktop launcher icons, top unity bar without any icons at the right, and the vertical launcher bar with its icons. However, start-up programs do not open, right-clicking the desktop does not open menu, clicking or right-clicking launchers on the desktop has no effect, and clicking icons in launcher bar has no effect. Ctl-Alt-T does not open a terminal.
The only working escape routes are Ctl-Alt-Bckspce, which "kills" the session and returns me to log-in window, or Ctl-Alt-Del, which re-boots.
The re-enabling of the "patch" two days ago did not cure the problem, which seems to have started when the patch was originally disabled. Using Natty, updated daily or more frequently.

Seems to be a widespread issue. Might be a dup with the bug that can be
worked around by removing Places.
