Thank you for your bug. What version of Ubuntu do you use? What sort of forward mode did you configure to the preferences dialog?

The version is 2.9.5-0ubuntu1 (Feisty Fawn) and the preferences are setup as you can see.

Does it work if you use inline rather than quoted?

Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu better. You reported this bug a while ago and there hasn't been any activity in it recently. We were wondering is this still an issue for you? May you try to reproduce this with a newer version of Ubuntu like Feisty or Gutsy? Thanks in advance.

We are closing this bug report as it lacks the information, described in the previous comments, we need to investigate the problem further. However, please reopen it if you may test this behavior with a newer version of Ubuntu like Gutsy Gibbon you may grab a CD Image from here: http://www.ubuntu.com/testing/ ; Thanks and we appreciate your help.

I tried with Gutsy and then with Hardy but the problem persists, when I forward an email with an attachment, the email arrives without the attachment.

This happens ONLY with text file attachment such txt or log file

I cannot confirm this on gutsy. Forwarding a message with .txt-attachment is no problem for me - attachment is still accessible. Can you please give an example and/or further information how to reproduce the mentioned behavior?

michelem (michele-marcucci) wrote :

To reproduce it:

- send an email with a .txt file attached
- check the email it should contains the attached file
- click forward
- the new forward message has no more attached file

I attach you a screenshot hope it helps

I've done it the same way you have suggested, and it works for me, even when I'm forwarding the forwarded message again. But it looks different for me when I'm trying to forward the mail - the old mail should be sent as an attachment as such, so it should not be shown in the body of the new mail.

I have this options in the "Composer Preferences" set:

- Forward style: Quoted
- Reply style: Quote original message

I think this options could be the problem, could you try it please?
Thank you very much

Gert Kulyk (gkulyk) wrote :

You're right. If I change forward-style to quoted, the txt-attachment will get lost. But the default is "as attachment", and this default works.

Well, the fact that there is a workaround (well, not really; putting the whole forwarded message as a monolithic attachment sucks) does not invalidate this bug. This doesn't happen with other mimetypes such as .xls, and is downright confusing.

I filed a bug upstream.

That should teach me, for sticking to LTS versions :) the bug disappeared in Evolution 2.24 (and newer, probably). However, those computers are still sticking to the LTS release with evo 2.22, so I'm wondering if this bug should be kept open for an eventual fix.

closing the bug, an hardy task can be opened if required but that doesn't seem a candidate for a stable update since there has been very few requests for the change
