Binary package hint: synaptic
Update-manager was applying a subset of package updates, including java, subversion and postgresql.
It appeared to finish, as the terminal window closed, but the update-manager UI remained disabled.
System monitor showed that a child gksu with a child synaptic was still running.
Ran apport-bug against the synaptic pid for this report.

I've tried recreating this bug with Oneiric and was unable to, given the information you've provided. Please either a) upgrade and test or b) increase the verbosity of the steps to recreate it so we can try again.
