Bug Description

Binary package hint: update-manager

I tried to upgrade to Edgy with the Xubuntu graphical update manager but failed. Here are the three last lines from /var/log/dist-upgrade/main.log

2006-11-12 14:29:37,319 DEBUG Marking 'xubuntu-desktop' for upgrade
2006-11-12 14:29:37,441 DEBUG Can't mark 'xubuntu-desktop' for upgrade (E:Pulmia ei voi korjata, rikkinäisiä paketteja on pysytetty.)
2006-11-12 14:30:45,791 ERROR Dist-upgrade failed: 'Tarvittavia metapaketteja ei voi päivittää'

"Pulmia ei voi korjata, rikkinäisiä paketteja on pysytetty" is in English something like "Can't fix the problems, broken packages have been retained" and "Tarvittavia metapaketteja ei voi päivittää" "Can't update the necessary metapackages"

I'll try to send the complete logfiles as attachments.

Michael, I subscribed you to this bug. could you perhaps take a look at the attached install logs and tell what's the problem with xine's dependencies here? is this a bug in update-manager or in xine-lib?

I've just run into this bug trying to upgrade a pristine dapper install of xubuntu to edgy. I think that bugs 68799, 73467 and 96094 (currently assigned to update-manager) are also duplicates of this one.

dapper to edgy upgrades are no longer support. Please open a new bug if dapper to hardy breaks as well.
