Login not possible when password contains umlauts

Bug Description

Login is not possible when the password contains umlauts. Gdm just says "legitimation failed". In spite, login is possible in the cli.

Are you able to confirm that you can produce umlauts in gdm? ie if when entering your username, you type an umlaut, do you see it?

Thank you for your bug. What version of Ubuntu and locale (LANGUAGE and LANG to /etc/environment) do you use?

The bug appears in Ubuntu 6.10 and in Feisty Fawn.

$LANGUAGE and $LANG are set to de_DE.UTF-8@euro
