When using "Make Caps Lock an additional Ctrl" keyboard option, doing a dist-upgrade causes caps lock to revert to a caps lock key

Bug Description

Binary package hint: update-manager

1. Enable "Make Caps Lock an additional Ctrl" (Explained in comment #3)
2. Run update-manager -d and follow the steps
3. Caps lock's behavior reverts to enabling/disabling caps lock during the "installing packages" step (I think)

To fix, I had to go into Keyboard Layout Options, and then uncheck and check the "Make Caps Lock an additional Ctrl" option.

Thanks for taking the time to report this. Where exactly is the "Make Caps Lock an additional Ctrl" option you are speaking of? Also before we continue, please run:

I haven't reported any bugs in Ubuntu in a long while. I'd forgotten how pleasant the Ubuntu community is. Thank you, RedSingularity.

And this is how I find the option:
Keyboard Preferences > Layouts > Options... > Ctrl key position > Make Caps Lock an additional Ctrl

Great! Thanks for that info. One more thing; Did you notice this on an upgrade from 10.10 to 11.04?

Confirmed issue on my machine. Marking "Confirmed" for now. I may change the package though before giving it a "triaged" stamp and an importance level, so standby on that. Will get back to you ASAP.

Problem at hand is with the program "gnome-keyboard-properties", which is part of the package "gnome-control-center". Assigning to that package.

The capplet is only an ui setting the option it's not what makes it applied or wouldn't change it latter especially if the capplet is closed, reassigning to gnome-settings-daemon but it could be also something on the xorg side which reset the value during the upgrade
