Bug Description

Binary package hint: libreoffice

I wanted to start libreoffice but it doesn't work. I get the following error message: "The application cannot be started.
[context="user"] caught unexpected exception!"

I've tried as well to start it via the terminal. There I get the following message:

alex@alex-VirtualBox:~$ libreoffice
javaldx: Could not find a Java Runtime Environment!
Please ensure that a JVM and the package libreoffice-java-common
is installed.
If it is already installed then try removing ~/.libreoffice/3/user/config/javasettings_Linux_*.xml

Is libreoffice-java-common installed?
Not that it should be required :/

What do you get if you type
java -version
in the terminal?

looks like libreoffice-java-common is missing a dependency on default-jre(-headless)

I have noticed this problem after a crash of the computer while libreoffice was running, and the consecutive reboot.

After removing the .libreoffice directory in the home directory of the user, there are no problem with starting libreoffice again.

Alexander Kallenbach, please answer these questions:

* Is this reproducible?
* If so, what specific steps should we take to recreate this bug?

This will help us to find and resolve the problem.

I'm sorry I can't answer your questions. This bug occured under a Natty alpha in VirtualBox. I have no longer Natty running in VirtualBox.

Alexander Kallenbach, before this problem occurred did you hard shutdown your VM and/or did you have a kernel panic?

As far as I can remember: no.
Libreoffice did not start from the day I've installed Natty in the VM.

Alexander Kallenbach, marking back to Confirmed, Low (have viable workaround) but there are a few problems with working on this bug:

+ The issue occurred with a RC kernel, which could have caused a LO data loss, hence this bug is dealing with a problem of a problem, not the root problem.
+ No reproduction vector.
+ The <?>-jre-headless dependency issue mentioned by Matthias Klose.
+ The following Terminal output from my Natty should have been something similar to what yours was, but was not:

java -version
java version "1.6.0_22"
OpenJDK Runtime Environment (IcedTea6 1.10.1) (6b22-1.10.1-0ubuntu1)
OpenJDK Server VM (build 20.0-b11, mixed mode)
