Bug Description

Binary package hint: firefox

Hello,

When I click to download any file in Firefox on Edgy (the default package version of Firefox i.e. 2.0), there is no response. The download window does not pop up. When I press Ctrl+Y, the download window is displayed, but no download is shown in progress.

I tried this on the Ubuntu CD download page (http://www.ubuntu.com/products/GetUbuntu/download#currentrelease) as well but I am able to reproduce this.

Can somebody please kindly look into this?
I can help in any way required with some guidance.

Thanks!

Could you post exactly what link did you click to download a file?

It happens on any link. It was reproducible with
http://tw.releases.ubuntu.com/edgy/ubuntu-6.10-desktop-i386.iso .

Thanks!

Im having the exact same problem, and it happens on any download link. But it seems that using the "Save as" (with right mouse button) works, so only the usual left click doesnt.

I have had the same problem as you two. Unfortunately, i can't find any solution but uninstalling the existing Firefox on your system (performing a clean installation, i mean -- you have to completely remove the Firefox user profile or else the error won't go away -- The profile will be located within your documents and settings/<your user name>/Application Data/mozilla) then re-install firefox again. If it ask you to import IE profiles on the startup means it's work.

Problem would be in ~/.mozilla/firefox/[XXXX].default Hentaiman actually.

I am having the same problem on Win XP. I had it on Firefox 1.5 and upgraded to 2.0 (now 2.0.0.4) without removing the profile, hoping to get rid of it. Downloads do not start, even after changing the all download settings, and I can not download images from webpages - I have to open IE to do that :(

I experienced the same problem just now (firefox v2.0.0.6), i fixed it by renaming the mimeTypes.rdf file in the profile. (deleting is also an option i guess)

Thank you so much! I've been having the same problem and I came to this page via Google. I just want to confirm that deleting downloads.rdf solved the prob for me.

Hi, your original report was against the edgy distribution.
I was wondering if you are still experiencing this issue.
edgy support is being end-of-lifed.

Hi Rolf,

I've moved on to Heron now, so I guess we can ignore/close this bug now :)

Thanks,

This is fixed in firefox 3 and there is nothing we can really do with this for edgy or gutsy since its not a security fix, Starting a new profile would most like make this go away as from posts seems the profile dir had gotten corrupted. Please uninstall firefox completely including all extensions. profiles ect.. and reinstalll it if it doesnt help please report a new seperate bug on your issue, If its Edgy that you have please reinstall it as stated above bug filing a bug report on it will the bug marked as invalid since Edgy has reached EOS. If you do have this issue and since Edgy is EOS think about doing a clean install of Gutsy or Hardy.
