Bug Description

edgy's gst-plugins-base doesn't pass audio data to libvisual0.4 properly... which makes the visualizations look lame due to lack of doing anything.

Patch was taken from http://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=357800 and fixed to apply cleanly against ubuntu edgy's gstreamer. It appears to fix the problem, no regressions noticed.

To demonstrate the point. Install the libvisual-plugins package. Launch totem and change the visualization plugin to something other than goom. Play a song and watch how lame it looks.
Now try the patched version of gst-plugins-base. Much better.

i am hoping on having this patched in edgy or good reasoning on why this patch is a bad idea against this release.
that attached patch is a slightly altered version of the upstreams version to make it cleanly apply against the edgy version.

i don't wish to ship unapproved alterations to gstreamer without guidance. without this patch, gstreamer's libvisual is inconsistency between dapper/feisty vs edgy.

i've been running this myself for a week now and i personally haven't managed to find any regressions in it (i've been using the visualizations daily).

The patch is not likely to be used for edgy, the stable update procedure is not trivial and can't be applied to every little bugs. That bug is about non-default visual effects and you are the only one to have opened a bug about it, that's a small problem and such not likely to justify a stable update
