Bug Description

Binary package hint: ksysguard

ksysguard has the funtionality to kill as well as view what processes are running. If ksysguard is not run as root, some of the funtionality is lost.

Possible solution: change the way ksysguard is called in the menu i.e. kdesu ksysguard instead of just ksysguard.

It can already kill your user's processes, but not root/system processes. Whether it should be able to by default is arguable. Maybe an administrator mode button?

That would be a better solution.

This is fixed in ksysguard. It asks for root's password if you try to kill another user's process.

John,
I realize this is fixed in ksysguard in kde4, but it is not, as far as I can tell, fixed in KDE 3.5.9, which is still shipped with Kubuntu Hardy. That is why I left it open as a wishlist in case somebody might fix it in KDE 3 for Hardy.
Sorry for changing the assignment, I couldn't figure out that you were the developer since there is no information on your launchpad page, I thought you'd just commented on the bug.

Ah heh, fair enough. To be honest, I won't fix (personally) this for
3.5.9, at least not in kde, I just don't have the time to work on two
branches :(
It could be possible that someone will send me a patch, but I get
very few patches for ksysguard.
The most likely outcome is that this won't be fixed in 3.5.9.

Since KDE4's ksysguard is shipping with Intrepid I think we can close this now.
