Bug Description

Binary package hint: gnome-screensaver

The default GNOME behavior of "random screensaver" leads to undesirable conditions where non-accelerated, low power, or energy conscious machines may run CPU or GPU hungry screensavers.

This new bug touches on several other bugs:

https://launchpad.net/distros/ubuntu/+source/gnome-screensaver/+bug/73438

https://launchpad.net/distros/ubuntu/+source/gnome-screensaver/+bug/39687

https://launchpad.net/distros/ubuntu/+source/gnome-screensaver/+bug/54843

The preceding bugs can be closed when this patch is merged and this bug is closed.

https://launchpad.net/distros/ubuntu/+source/gnome-screensaver/+bug/34510

Is the same report, but then tangents into places this patch does not cover.

https://launchpad.net/distros/ubuntu/+source/gnome-screensaver/+bug/33753

Touches on this bug, but is not solved or affected by this patch.

The install script will show you where what bits need to go in which places.

I'll begin merging this upstream, too, so that we only need to track our default prefs and artwork.

Wow, I'm really glad to see that this was implemented. So, fresh ubuntu installs will show ubuntu floaters unless changed? cool!

I have two more suggestions:

-I'd rather have one big logo than several small ones. How big can the logo get now that it's on SVG graphics?

-The logo should move slowlier and maybe have a slight spinning motion. A huge logo where only a part of it is onscreen, slowly rotating and slowly moving through the screen, would be ideal.

the logo gets as big as the svg defines, it will only scale down, not up, the shipped logo is 128x128 pix big.

i'll look into letting it move slower, but i fear rotating is to cpu intensive for older machines ...

have a look at /usr/lib/gnome-screensaver/gnome-screensaver/floaters --help

to see all available options.
until gnome-screensaver finally gets a configuration interface for the single hacks, you can edit the Exec line of /usr/share/applications/screensavers/ubuntu_theme.desktop

Thanks for your time. If you could make the logos move slower and not turn around so suddenly... they kind of look like flies now, flying around like that.
