Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu better.

It would appear that something went wrong when you upgraded to the latest development release; as a result the eucalyptus-java-common package is not installed correctly and hence you keep getting this error message.

Please could you attach any log files from /var/log/dist-upgrade to this bug report.

Thanks

There is also apt-term.log but it is 3.7mb seems a bit large to be uploading here.

Hi Ben

Did you upgrade to natty from lucid of maverick? Its not clear from the logs and the error messages relate to upgrading of the database that supports eucalyptus which should only occur when upgrading from lucid.

Thanks

it would be useful to understand whether the eucalyptus components that you have installed on the system where functional before you upgraded.

Please could you also validate whether eucalyptus-common is installed with the following command:

apt-cache policy eucalyptus-common

Thanks

Hi Guys.

I updated from Maverick, I believe it was working beforehand. But there is a chance I had chosen to ignore the error before this recent upgrade. The results of running apt-cache policy eucalyptus-common:

We've seen this twice now (also under bug 792746)

I think I see a way that this could have failed. If there is no /var/lib/eucalyptus/db when the upgrade is started then I think the postinst will fail this way.

So, I have 2 questions
a.) did you have data that you were expecting to be ugpraded? Ie, was this more than just a test?
If so, can you give output of 'find /var/backups/eucalyptus/'
b.) is there anything that you may have done that might have caused a funny state prior to upgrade?

If you're just looking to get through the upgrade, I think you might be able to do so by:
  sudo mkdir /var/lib/eucalyptus/db
  sudo apt-get -f install
