Theme broken but gsd not crashed

Binary package hint: gnome-settings-
My theme seems broken, using the old retro default grey colour scheme. GSD hasn't crashed, there's nothing in /var/crash.
I can kill and restart GSD but it makes no difference.
This is running natty in a virtualbox VM. See screenshot.

The issue that you reported is one that should be reproducible with the live environment of the Desktop CD of the stable release - Oneiric Ocelot.
