Bug Description

Inkscape is now not useable on my computer. On Windows 7 64 bit, with 8 gigabytes, Inkscape v 0.48_1_2 downloaded April 24, ran installer, started Inkscape but it immediately crashed. Retried and Inkscape consistently crashes with this error data provided by Windows:

Could you please test again after shutting down and rebooting your computer? (Don't just reboot, shut down, wait for a minute or two, and then turn it on again).

This seems a memory-related issue which has been reported repeatedly by many users (launchpad bug tracker and answers section, Inkscape forum, irc and mailing list), apparently often occurs after applying a security or system update from MicroSoft, and several users confirmed that this type of crash disappeared after one (or several) reboots.

Most likely a duplicate of

Thank you for the quick, friendly and accurate resolution. Shutdown and then turn on did resolve the problem. I don't know what the status should be changed to because my specific problem has been resolved but the word resolved is not in the status list. So I changed the title to include the word resolved.

I'm setting this as "Invalid" since doesn't seem to be a bug in Inkscape.

Do you know for sure that it's not related to Inkscape's code? AFAIU there is some kind of memory corruption happening (indicated by 'StackHash' instead of a real module [1]), and based on the user reports I have read it does not equally affect other programs.
