Thanks Kate, could you add your .xsession-errors after getting the issue? Is the theming issue restricted to the unity components or do you have it in applications as well?

Same thing happening on my laptop (also 64-bit). And yes, in applications, too.

Based on Sebastian seeing it, and adding his .xsession-errors (Thanks Sebastian!), am marking this as confirmed and associating it with specific releases.

I had noticed the problem also in Maverick (it could have started after switching to "maverick-proposed" upgrade set, but I'm not sure).
It happened occassionally that after login the colour/icon setup was incorrect (same set as in the screenshot above). I usually killed the Xserver and loged in again to get it straight.

Now I am at natty, so I can't repeat the maverick problem.

I also had similar white top bar as in the screenshot above. I then changed the system theme to "Ambiance" and it seems to fix the problem.

same problem. had it while testing the beta in virtualbox (I remember seeing someone posting a workaround for it then, but I can't remember it now).

I still encounter it on a clean install on my laptop. seems fairly random when it turns up, but effects the top bar and applications as described by the other posters. for me, choosing different themes in the Appearance dialogue didn't fix it, I just restart (or, I'm sure, anything that restarts the xserver would fix it).
