Bug Description

I've set Opera 11.11 to be my default browser ('xdg-settings get default-web-browser' returns 'opera-browser.desktop'), but it won't show up in Unity's dash home screen (it shows Firefox instead). However, it works with other browsers like Chromium and Midori.

In Unity 2D, the item for the default browser is missing altogether (see screenshot).

This happens with Unity (2D) in Natty as well as in Oneiric.

Where does Opera put its desktop file, btw? Is the opera-browser.desktop file in /usr/share/applications or /usr/local/share/applications/ or ~/.local/share/applications or somewhere else?

Bilal, opera-browser.desktop resides in /usr/share/applications.

Hi, i found a little workaround that solve this issue

sudo ln -s /usr/bin/opera /usr/bin/opera-browser
gconftool-2 --type string --set /desktop/gnome/applications/browser/exec /usr/bin/opera-browser

@Rafael, Hernando: this issue might have been fixed with Oneiric, let's try it out.

Actually, it should have been fixed with revision 645 of lp:unity-2d, and the version for Natty in the daily PPA has the fix (just tested, it works well here).
