Modules load/unload system doesn't suffice

Bug Description

Binary package hint: acpi-support

For IBM/Lenovo Thinkpad and HP laptops a fix is needed to support suspend/resume.

Adding (in /etc/default/acpi-support) 'psmouse' to the MODULES list fixes this.

I suggest a more advanced modules unload/load system:

Before suspend, a list of loaded modules should be processed. If there are loaded modules which are known to cause problems if they are not unloaded (such as ipw3945 and psmouse) it should be automatically unloaded and reloaded on resume.

By request of Peter Whittaker, who asked me to also comment the following here:

I have an HP laptop myself, where this is needed (but doesn't fix this completely though, needs some more work here and there)
I do also need (both for suspend and hibernation) to unload the ipw3945
driver etc.

Anyway, there are lots of resources out there which state this clearly,
lots of people experience this:

Generally speaking it's mostly an issue on HP notebooks (and some say
X60s thinkpads), is my understanding...

But there are more drivers known to cause problems on some systems and
unloading them is generally unharmful, so IMHO if either psmouse or
ipw3945 are loaded, they should be unloaded and reloaded upon resume.

Wilco, can you please keep an eye on bug #63418 - there is new version of ipw3945 coming for Feisty (and Edgy), and this may address at least part of the problem herein. We may still have a problem with psmouse, but at least there will be one fewer issue to track.

Thanks!

If drivers don't work, they should be fixed rather than loading and unloading them - doing this to psmouse will break other systems.
