Bug Description

Binary package hint: totem

How to reproduce : open a simple MIDI file in Totem. It will play. Wait for the performance to terminate, then hit the play button again. The second time, the cursor is moving ahead just like if the file was playing, but there is no more sound. You have to close Totem, then open the MIDI file again if you want to play it again.

This occurs with MIDI files only, Totem does not expose this behavior with WAV or MP3 files.

Hi,

Would you be able to check if this works in the latest release of Ubuntu (11.04)? When I checked it there the behaviour was still wrong, but not as you described. What I found was that when playing any MIDI file the counter would keep going even after the end of the clip. The controls do not indicate that the playback has stopped (still a pause button there). Moving the slider back to beginning of the track makes it start playing for there again.

Hi Brendan, thanks for your cares,

I've not planned to update to Ubuntu 11.04 (for reasons not relevant to expose here). However, I guess I would get the same as you, as I suppose this is unlikely to depend on hardware configuration. I've just checked again the behavior for my current version, is the one I exposed in the first message. I also feel the behavior you encountered with your configuration, looks finally related too.

I still can update any application separately, but did not find any updates for Totem in Synaptic (nor for libgstreamer). If you wish, I may be able to update a library Totem may depends on.

Otherwise, keep this report as-is (marked as pending), if ever my Ubuntu release is not supported anymore, and I will be back to this if I ever eventually update to Ubuntu 11.04 (unlikely for the time)

If there are any other test I have to run, please, tell me (this bug is important to me, as it is in some way a bit related to another).

You could try to install 11.04 in a virtual machine such as 'VirtualBox OSE' which is installable from the Ubuntu Software Center for free. These instructions are slightly out of date but should mostly tell you what to do:
