Bug Description

Binary package hint: cups-pdf

Hi! After upgrade to Ubuntu 11.04, selection of page rotation in Printers - My Cups-Pdf printer - Properties - Job options - Orientation, no more work:
1. When I select 180 deg rotation, i get not rotated PDF. (please see attachment #1)
2. When I print one document which has pages with different quantity of vertical and horizontal words/chars, i get PDF with randomly oriented (portrait/landscape) pages. Looks like some artificial intelligence was added.
I compare to my Ubuntu 10.10 and find that all works normally in cups-pdf 2.5.0-16 . (please see attachment #2)
To ensure it, i downgrade in my Ubuntu 11.04, cups-pdf (2.5.1-2) to cups-pdf (2.5.0-16) and all work now as before.
Thanks.

Have you tried purging the old package and reinstalling it, rather than just upgrading? Does it fix it?

No.
Installing cups-pdf (2.5.1-2) in any case gives this bug, either if i install it as uprgade to cups-pdf (2.5.0-16), as reinstall of itself, or as remove and then clean install.
After each step i delete my virtual printer, then add it again.
The only solution i find is to use old version of cups-pdf (2.5.0-16): i remove current cups-pdf and then install old cups-pdf (2.5.0-16) manually.
Thanks

Accepted cups-pdf into lucid-proposed, maverick-proposed and natty-proposed. The package will build now and be available in a few hours. Please test and give feedback here. See https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Testing/EnableProposed for documentation how to enable and use -proposed. Thank you in advance!

Hi! I'm sorry for delayed answer, it's due to openprinting.org's site was down and i'm was unable to download needed packages. So i now enable proposed packages and test it. But unfortunately i found that bug was still not fixed. It now have version 'cups-pdf (2.5.1-7)'. I also reproduce this bug on other machine. It is very easy to reproduce: go to Job options of your Pdf printer, select 180 deg rotation and see that result is not rotated. Again, only known solution for me is use 'cups-pdf 2.5.0-16' package.
Thank you!

I found the solution, and test it also in versions 2.6.1-6, and in Ubuntu 12.10 (2.6.1-7).
 $ sudo gedit /etc/cups/cups-pdf.conf
then replace:
 # GSCall .........
to: (uncomment line & remove '-dAutoRotatePages=/PageByPage' key)
 GSCall %s -q -dCompatibilityLevel=%s -dNOPAUSE -dBATCH -dSAFER -sDEVICE=pdfwrite -sOutputFile="%s" -dAutoFilterColorImages=false -dColorImageFilter=/FlateEncode -dPDFSETTINGS=/prepress -c .setpdfwrite -f %s

(Don't know what exactly it does, just result of trial-and-error tests. Use with caution in production machines.)
