I could reproduce this, but an update fixed it a while back. Rab22, do you still have a crash with the mixer applet?

I had the same problem while i installed xpenguins applet with synaptic on edgy then when i added the applet to the panel, gnome panel freezed and became unusable restarting gdm and restarting the computer did not solve the problem and at last i fixed it by uninstalling the xpenguins applet using synaptic.

Arash, that seems to be a different issue. Does gnome-panel still crash when you add an xpenguin applet? If it does, please can you file a bug against xpenguin?
