Pound sign lost when sending email in ISO-8859-1 to UTF-8

Bug Description

Binary package hint: mozilla-thunderbird

Steps.

1. Compose new email using the ISO-8859-1 character encoding, (Options -> Character Encoding -> Western (ISO-8859-1), send it to someone.
2. Set the receiving account to view messages in UTF-8, (View -> Character Encoding -> Unicode(UTF-8)).
3. Receive the email to only find it has "???" in the content.

OS Info.

I am running Edgy with a fully updated Thunderbird 1.5. (version 1.5.0.9 (20070103))

I have not tested this under Feisty as yet.

Alex does this happen on latest thunderbird in edgy or latest in feisty?

Yes it does on 2.0.0.4 from the MozillaTeam Preview Archives..

Alex in your feisty install please install the default firefox as we had to pull 2.0.0.4 out of preview archive due to conflicts
sudo apt-get install firefox=2.0.0.4+1-0ubuntu1

Are you able to check upstream version of tbird to see if it happens 1.5.0.* and/or 2.0
If not i can test it when i get a spare few minutes to see if it does it.

Does this happen as well if you send it to other clients say evo, or is it only when you recieve email in tbird its lost?

This is an old bug that I cannot reproduce in the latest Thunderbird 2 release. If you are still having an issue with this with Thunderbird 2 or later, you can change the status of this bug back to New. If you do, please let us know what your current Ubuntu version and Thunderbird version are. Thank you and please report any other bugs you may find.
