Bug Description

Binary package hint: gnome-app-install

I have a Thinkpad T23, which has a Pentium III 1.13 GHz (pretty slow by today's standard).

Now, when I open gnome-app-install and want to search I type one letter which results in a search.

Then I type the next letter, which results in a search. It means that searching 'codecs' results in six searches.

Thus, a search button would IMHO be better than the type-a-head search.

Actually, the type-ahead search would work if it was faster.

Deskbar is really fast when I query tracker. It must be possible to speed up gnome-app-install also.

Thanks for your bugreport.

g-a-i should do a delayed search. That is, it should not start search while you still type. Is this not the case for you?

Cheers,
 Michael

As soon as I type 'c' it starts searching.

Also, when I delete a character, it immediately starts searching again.

His computer is really slow or he types slow. If I type a 'c' and pause for (half a second or so) then it starts searching.

But if I type normal (I type real fast) I can fill the entire textfield and no searching happens.

Thanks for this explaination.

I assume the timeout for the search is just too short then. I have a local version that move it to 1s. In this local version it is also configurable via a gconf key, so if it is not good, we can experiment with a different timeout (the timeout is the time after you stopped tying until it starts with the search).

Please reopen if the increased timeout does not make things better.

Cheers,
 Michael
