Bug Description

Ubuntu 6.10, x86

I found that text console (ALT+F1, ALT+F2, etc) is broken on DELL Optiplex GX100 PC. graphical console (Xorg, ALT+F7) works fine. Graphic card is on board, Intel 82810 DC-100 GMCH. Analog monitor cannot synchronize to the signal in the text console, and from teh color noise I guess that it display some random data from videoram.

Problem with text mode is triggered during Ubuntu boot for short time too; when splash boot screen is removed and before Xorg server with login screen is up and running. Analog monitor cannot synchronize to video signal, random color lines are on the screen.

Same thing on a Dell Dimension 4500s with an intel 845G chipset. Between the boot loader and the start of X, there is a blank screen. Switching to a console will show an extremely large font, so the resolution must be off. Also, on a shutdown, after X is closed, the screen goes blank again.
