Bug Description

Binary package hint: sane-utils

I used the following scanimage command:
bernhard@Canopus:~$ scanimage -L
insmod: can't read '/lib/modules/2.6.17-10-generic/kernel/drivers/mfpportctrl/mfpport.ko': No such file or directory
Segmentation fault (core dumped)
bernhard@Canopus:~$

Then I got a message about the scanimage crash. Xsane doesn't work. I can scan with the samsung "unified driver configurator. Printing function is o.k.

-- History --

First of all i tryed to start XSane. I was asked form the system whether i really want to intend to continue as root. I uninstalled xsane and and install xsane a second time. xsane didn't start any more.

The printer i use is samsung scx-4216f on lp:0 (parallel port), Ubuntu-version: 6.10 Edgy Eft

My aim is to use the samsung printer/scanner and to use xsane.

Hello Daniel,

today i use 8.04: I can't start xsane. I don't intend to load a "alpha"
version.

The following information could be helpful - perhaps. I use the samsung
driver software instead (Version 2.00.97). Download:
http://www.samsung.com/au/support/download/supportDown.do?model_nm=SCX-4216F&mType=DR&vType=L&disp_nm=SCX-4216F

Best regards
Bernhard

Bernhard,

Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and trying to help make Ubuntu better. However, it seems that you are not using a software package provided by the official Ubuntu repositories. Because of this the Ubuntu project can not support or fix your particular bug. Please report this bug to the provider of the software package (e.g Samsung). Thanks!

The Ubuntu wiki lists hardware that is supported or working. Your printer model is listed as Not Supported but mostly working according to openprinting.org.
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/HardwareSupportComponentsPrintersLexmark
http://openprinting.org/show_printer.cgi?recnum=Samsung-SCX-4216
http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=350539

The Samsung UnifiedLinuxDriver current version is ver.3.00.37 updated 2009-02-25. You may try it in a VirtualBox so as not to upset your system. Ubuntu Hardware Support lists your printer as working under Intrepid 8.10. Because this driver is not part of Ubuntu, I must mark this bug report as invalid.
