Bug Description
During a DVD movie playback (on gxine, but dont think the problem is related to just this application) on my sony vaio notebook, the DVD drive spins at full speed whole time. This causes a lot of noise, which is pretty annoying while watching a movie. On other OS (*blush* *shame* like windows *hides*) it just spins at a very low speed on this notebook, making DVD playback much more fun.

Thanks for your bug report. Which particular version of Ubuntu did you notice this on? Additionally, do you notice the same type of behavior when you are copying files from you CD / DVD drive to your system?
