Thanks for your bug report. Are you referring to update-manager or Gnome's Add / Remove Applications program?

I've got the same problem. Update-manager just hangs after confirming installation. But the bug occurred lately (today) - previously it was working fine.

I checked once more and it looks like problem isn't in the update-manager itself but apt in general. In my case update-manager hangs because it has problem with downloading some packets. Apt (using console this time) also is stopping at the same point. When I changed repository (from pl to en) it started to work fine. Using apt-get's options -m, --fix-missing, --ignore-missing had no result.

Thanks for this additional information.

Can you please poste the exact content of the screen when apt stops? Including the command and the mirror that you used? Something like:
# cat /etc/apt/sources.list
[..content here..]
# apt-get dist-upgrade
[..command output here ..]

(if oyu have not used apt-get dist-upgrade but some different command, please let us know).

This will help debugging the issue a lot.

Thanks,
 Michael

Things I did in order:
1. Run update manager (using pl repos as in list above) which downloaded some new packages and opened dialog that not all packages were downloaded. I choose to continue and it hanged (I tried 2 or 3 times).
2. I killed every related process (update-manager and synaptic) and tried to use console precisely apt-get upgrade (with options to ignore packages that are missing. It also hanged after writing that some packages from pl.archive.ubuntu.com are missing (as far as I remember it was error 440).
3. I changed all repos to en (en.archive.ubuntu.com), did apt-get update, started update-manager and everything was working fine (no error, no hangs, no problems with missing packages).

If you can reproduce the problem, can you please run:

and attach the output here (or parts of the output as it maybe rather long)?

What exactly mean 'reproduce'...?? Wait for another hang or just run strace without waiting (now)...??

Reproduce means wait for another hang and then use strace to investigate what the process is doing that hangs. This will help me a lot with understanding what the actual problem is.

Here you are... :) I attached to process (apt-get dist-upgrade --fix-missing) when apt asks me for confirmation (part 'Czy chcesz kontynuować [T/n]? t' as above). Listing below. I previously downloaded other packages so apt tries to download only the missing.

Thanks for your bugreport.

This should be fixed with the latest apt in feisty. Please reopen if this is still a problem after you applied the update.
