keyboard problem (USB) generating "&&&&&&" caracters

Bug Description

Hello,
New PC Fujitsu Siemens Scaleo P
with Ubuntu 7.04 Herd 3
on this PC, no ps/2 port ! Keyboard and mouse only in USB.
chipset Via VT 8237A
cpu Intel Core 2

problem : every 5 secondes, a "&" caractere is generated...
same problem in console text mode
same problem in ALL X programs (OOo, terminal)
Even if I dis&connect keyboard and mouse, the "&&"' continue to be generated...

It's &near impossible to type a text

other problem : Brother printer HL-1430 laser not detected, but SAME printer work correctly from Ubuntu 7.04 if defined on the network on the old Windows XP computer.

Seem also to be a USB problem ?

Hello

- USB Keyboard is ok. I test it connected to a laptop with Ubuntu 6.10. No problem

- On Ubuntu 7.04 Herd 3, even if I disconnect USB keyboard and USB mouse, I continue to receive a "&" caractere every 5 secondes...

We make all the updates this evening, and I also install other kernels "linux-image" :

Not better :
same problem with all these kernels :
- 2.6.20-8-generic, -386 and -lowlatency
- 2.6.20-6-generic, -386 and -lowlatency
- 2.6.20-7-generic

(blocked at start up with 2.6.20-5-generic)

Always the same problem with the "&" caractere every 5 secondes...

We can use this computer in Ubuntu :-(

Hello,

I can not access to this computer every day. It's not at home.
This afternoon (Sunday 2007-02-18), I go to this Ubuntu 7.04 computer.
A lot of update was made !

And now... the problem disappeared !...
We were abble to type text correctly, without the borring "&" caracters...
I suppose one of these update correct the "&" caracters problem...

So for me, it's OK.
You can close this problem.

We always have problem with the keyboard.
Randomly, a character is generate, not always a "&", sometime a " ' ", a ' " ', or " ( " or <backspace> or other...
It's not so often.
Previously, a "&" was generate every 5 seconds. Not it's ... random... 20 or 30 seconds ?

I hope somebody can help us.

Hello,

I FOUND the problem !
Very strange...

I finaly see strange message in the DMESG (I don't see them before)
Unfortunatly I don't copy the error messages

But it was someting like this "Pinacle TV Key error..." or "Pinacle TV
invalide key" ... (a lot of error messages)

This Fujitsu Siemens computer has a Pinacle TV board (analogue and
digital TV, I think Philips chipset)...

I REMOVE the Pinacle TV card, and the keyboard problem disapear !
No problem now !

Keybord problem is solved...

Pinacle TV card is an other problem, but not critical has my friend can
live without the Pinacle TV card (but not without keyboard)

Hello, Didier!
I had the same type of problem with ubuntu 8.04, 9.04 and 9.10 (last one - in pre-release). I had to return to 8.10 being unable to solve this problem. 9.10 worked with some of kernels but unstable (computer could just hang during use of Firefox with any visible reason)- Could you explain what should i proceed in order to remove this Pinnacle card?
And where it is used really?
