Bug Description

Binary package hint: synaptic

After further investigation, another bug was discovered.

Package: Synaptic 0.57.11.1ubuntu4 installed after initial install, upgrade from synaptic (0.57.11.1ubuntu5) to 0.57.11.1ubuntu6, package version does not reflect upgraded package under Help : About.

1.Open synaptic via Control Center
2. Settings : Repositories
3. No request for password to enable changes to be made to repositories, at first was informed that changes had been made, requiring a "reload" to enable changes to repositories to load, no changes made, unable to make changes to repositories.

Attempted to make changes to repositories using command line "synaptic" package initiation, was met with : Starting without administrative privileges dialog. Below shows that adding sudo was not a workaround.

   justaguy@feisty:~$ sudo synaptic
Password:

(synaptic:7682): libglade-WARNING **: Error loading image: Failed to open file '/usr/share/synaptic/glade/system-upgrade': No such file or directory

(synaptic:7682): libglade-WARNING **: could not convert string to type `GdkPixbuf' for property `pixbuf'

(synaptic:7682): libglade-WARNING **: Couldn't find image file: system-upgrade

Confirmed for the "(synaptic:7682): libglade-WARNING **: Couldn't find image file: system-upgrade". Looks cosmetic.

Confirmed for the Help:About. Installed synaptic is 0.57.11.1ubuntu6, Help:About shows 0.57.11.1ubuntu4. Looks cosmetic.

Not confirmed for the repository change when starting without root privileges. Settings/Repositories is grayed out and inaccessible.

Confirmed for trying to change repositories when running as root: clicking on Settings/Repositories brings an immediate pop-up stating that the repositories were changed. Clicking on Close on the pop-up terminates the action. As a result, it is impossible to edit repositories under synaptic. Not good.

Thanks for your bugreport.

I fixed the version number (a bug in the automatic generation), the "Couldn't find image file: system-upgrade"" warning and the bug in Settings/Repositories (reported as #84248) in my local tree. It will be part of the next upload.

Cheers,
 Michael
